A few weeks ago I had the honor of co-hosting a baby shower for my dear friend, Heather, who is expecting twin boys later this year. Heather was in town from San Antonio for the weekend where she and her hubby, also a dear friend, are living for the year. Heather’s beautiful mom, Diane, came in from Minnesota for the party and along with twenty other friends and family members, enjoyed a menu of “bite-sized” appetizers served in pairs, in honor of the twins.
Planning this party was seriously SO. MUCH. FUN. Made me wish I was a party planner. Maybe in another life? Hmmmm……HOWEVER, I would only do it if my amazing friend, Elaine Buckley (simple e designs) would be my business partner. She is an unbelievably talented artist and graphic designer. Actually, like me, she is a teacher by day and wife-mom-artist-and-now-perhaps-party-planner?? by night!
In terms of decor, nearly everything for this party was handmade. Elaine designed the gorgeous giraffe themed invitations, stationary and dessert picks and we planned the whole party around the theme “Oh Boys” with the image of the giraffes facing one another, sharing one heart. The inspiration for the original design was the blue giraffe that you see on the food table, which Elaine already had in her son’s nursery. A simple color scheme of robin’s egg blue, lime green, and brown with pops of orange created a festive backdrop for the already lovely and cozy setting. Colorful handmade baby blocks which Elaine created hung from the dining room chandelier. Custom onesies strung over the fireplace on a clothesline displayed the theme “OH BOYS” and were anchored by the twin giraffes, one on each end. I created the diaper cake and a handmade keepsake box which both repeated the giraffe theme as did the stationary on which guests lovingly wrote motherhood advice and wishes for the baby boys.
As party favors, guests were given tiny cellophane bags filled with twin giraffe cookies that shared one heart, to repeat the twin theme. Large floral centerpieces with vases wrapped in ribbon featured blossoming white and green hydrangea, and green spider mums. Tiny messages hovered over desserts. Polka dots dotted balloons, ribbons, cookies and the keepsake box.
Here is the only photo that I didn’t take because for this one I was on the other side of the camera, posing with Heather and Elaine.
And here are three adorable shots of the guest of honor and the “rookie dad.” 🙂 Aren’t they an adorable couple? And they couldn’t be sweeter. Both of them. Seriously the kind of friends you feel SO blessed to have in your life.
Congratulations, Heather and Chris! I couldn’t be happier for you two…and I can’t wait to meet your precious baby boys!
